Muscle Injuries & Tears
There are two main ways in which muscle tears may occur. Firstly, from one specific traumatic injury; for example falling over, stretching too far whilst doing a physical activity, or being hit by something. Secondly, a muscle tear can be caused by repetitive strain through a muscle where the mechanics of the body aren’t moving optimally. Over time this causes too much force to go through one muscle, causing a tear.
During your appointment your osteopath will discuss how the injury came about, including previous injuries which may have predisposed the muscle to an injury.
Osteopathic treatment helps by optimally aligning the mechanics of the whole body to take the stain off the injured muscle allowing it to heal more efficiently. Your osteopath will also work directly into the injured muscle to support optimal healing of the muscle fibres to ensure the muscle can be as strong as possible once the injury is healed. You may also be given exercises to do between appointment to help rehabilitate the muscle.
